Since 1962 on Old Route 9
Hank and Dottie Mercer opened a twelve-stool counter next to the Route 9 filling station in the spring of 1962. Truckers came for the coffee, families came back for the pie, and the copper spoon Dottie hung over the pass gave the place its name.
Their granddaughter Lou Mercer runs the kitchen today. The booths got bigger and the shakes got thicker, but the buttermilk recipe hasn't changed a pinch.
